“At a loss for words..” // Pamela ‘ Bronson – Same Day Edit (Honolulu, Hawaii)

Ok, ok….I confess. I’ve been holding out on this one. It’s been up on vimeo hiding for almost 2 months. Why? I’ve been at a loss for words. I couldn’t figure out anything clever to say to match how epic I felt this piece was…so I’ll just stick to the story :). I had the pleasure of shooting alongside my personal mentor in the wedding cinematography world, Michael Y. Wong and arguably one of the best editors/storytellers in Hawaii, Joel Campos. This team was put together the last minute and was the personification of a “clutch team”. They both pulled thru for me and I wouldn’t have been able to get this same day edit out to the level that I was able to push it without their lightning fast rough cutting, skilled shooting + story telling, and my 100% peace of mind that the reception was being shot perfectly while I chopped away at the computer. Please visit the vimeo page if you’d like to read more on how I put the edit together.

Now on to the lovely couple!

Pamela and Bronson were originally from Hawaii and now reside on the mainland. From the moment I met them, I was happy to discover that “aloha” had never left their hearts. The thing I really loved about this couple was that they had ZERO pretension. Very down to Earth and laid back…epitome of Hawaii :). They wanted to do a first look…but not the “cheesy type” as Pam put it. After some quick brainstorming during the rehearsal, I asked her if they were doing cards to which she affirmed. Logistically, it was going to be tough shooting the exchange as once I leave the groom’s room, I stick with the bride until first look / ceremony time. We came up with the brilliant idea of exchanging the cards during the 1st look and killed two birds with one stone. Gotta love MYW’s EPIC wide shot during the approach ;).

WIthout further delay….It is with great pleasure I share this piece with the world.

Enjoy!

“Even in Hogwarts…” – Melody ‘ Joel – SDE (Honolulu, HI)

I’ve known Melody for over 15 years. We attended intermediate and high school together. And not only is she a great friend and fellow Mililani Trojan (w00t!), she has been following my work since I started Colour Craft and is a fan. Needless to say, there was quite the pressure to perform when she contacted me to be her wedding cinematographer ;).

Melody and Joel tied the knot at the intimate Ocean Crystal Chapel and celebrated their reception at Aloha Tower Water Front. I’m a huge fan of non traditional venues (as you can only shoot a hotel so many times) and I was quite excited to shoot at the water front. The bridal party was pretty style’d out, a reflection of Melody and Joel’s own abundance of swag and stylish tastes…gotta love them socks. From the comedic story telling of Greg Hammer to the great 90s beats played by Dj Yogurt, I was glad to have been able to film my fellow Harry Potter lovers’ special day. Love you guys!

Enjoy!!

Back in Action! // Heidi ‘ Sean – Same Day Edit (Honolulu, HI)

*blows the dust off the blog*

WHEW! What a hiatus from posting! I’ve got a good excuse, really..I do. :) CCm has been shooting. Alot. lol. With that said, a flurry of posts will be coming up in the next few days. Sumimasen for the absence!!!! Alrighty, on to business!
________

First off, these guys REALLY know how to party, haha. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was boogie’ing and shaking it on the dance floor during the reception. If I wasn’t so busy editing the SDE, I woulda jumped out and busted a move also. ;)

The scene of their wedding was at a breathtaking location at the Koolau Ballrooms. I’ve never filmed at this particular area before and I was pretty excited to see it after Pastor Alice Inouye hyped it up so much :). Safe to say, she did not exaggerate on how beautiful the spot was. It gave us quite the majestic backdrop with the mountains and the perfect cloud cover gave us excellent lighting :). What I REALLY love about this couple is that they were so down to do whatever was needed in order to get great imagery. They made it very easy for the photographers and my team to do our duties without hinderance, so thanks so much H+S :). BTW, the photographers were the fine husband and wife team of John and Lauren, who also flew in from California. It was a pleasure working with you two and thanks for being such great team players! Special shoutout to Michelle and LanAnh from Mele Amore who did a fantastic job coordinating the event, true pros :)!

Heidi and Sean have such great personalities and it translates so well into the film. If there is one word I can use to describe this couple and their love for each other, it would be “genuine”. The groomsmen were also quite the lively bunch. In fact, if you stay past the credits of the film, you’ll see a special performance by one of them ;).

Enjoy their Same Day Edit film!

Currently in the Batcave…editing.

Hey true believers (it’s a Stan Lee quote if you’re not a comic book reader :P ),

Super short update.

We’re still alive, don’t worry ;).

I’ve been getting emails upon emails wondering why the blog hasn’t been updated. Simply put, been buried under a pile of footage :). Working hard to get these final edits out to couples as well as continue to service new ones. In this industry, it’s always a balancing act between editing, shooting, signing new clients, and keeping the previous ones informed/happy. I do my best to personally answer all the emails and inquiries within 24 hours, except for the days when we’re off island shooting, so for those waiting for an email, it’s coming! Just returned from the outer islands so playing catch up again with the pile of emails in the inbox. In regards to blog updates, stay tuned for some new wedding films in the coming days as well as some industry insight into what gear I use and recommend. I also have a few corporate films that I’ve shot in collaboration with a california based ad agency that has finally been cleared for display. (woohoo!)

In the meantime, I’d like to share with you an article I wrote for the event filmmaking industry’s leading magazine, EventDV! Here’s the link!

Enjoy!
